Mu Alpha ΣΧ

The Mu Alpha Chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity was founded on campus in 2015 and strives to instill the values of Sigma Chi into all our actions, events, and brothers on the UNC Charlotte campus. Our members take pride in working to help the community, which is shown in the number of hours we put into community service and the money we donate to charities each year.

Who are we?

Sigma Chi is the second-largest Fraternity in the world. Sigma Chi boasts over 300,000 active brothers, and over 250 chapters internationally.

History and tradition: Sigma Chi was founded in 1855 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, making it one of the oldest fraternities in the United States. The fraternity's founders established it on the principles of friendship, justice, and learning, which remain the cornerstone of Sigma Chi's values today.

Academic excellence: Sigma Chi is committed to academic excellence, and its members consistently perform well academically. Many Sigma Chi chapters have higher GPAs than their respective universities' average, and the fraternity offers a variety of academic resources, such as study groups and tutoring services.

Leadership opportunities: Sigma Chi provides its members with numerous opportunities to develop their leadership skills. The fraternity offers leadership conferences, workshops, and training programs to help members enhance their abilities, and many Sigma Chi alumni hold leadership positions in various fields.

Philanthropy and community service: Sigma Chi is committed to giving back to the community and supporting charitable causes. The fraternity's signature philanthropy event is the Derby Days, which is a week-long fundraising event that involves various activities and competitions. Over the years, Sigma Chi has raised millions of dollars for different charities.

Lifelong brotherhood: One of the most significant benefits of joining a fraternity is the lifelong bonds of brotherhood that members form. Sigma Chi has a vast network of alumni, which provides members with access to a wide range of professional and personal opportunities.

Diverse membership: Sigma Chi prides itself on having a diverse membership, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs. The fraternity values inclusivity and encourages members to embrace and celebrate their differences.

All of those things were heavily influenced by my Sigma Chi experience. There is no question that it has had a tremendous impact on my career professionally, and on my life.”

“What you do in life by yourself doesn’t mean as much as what you accomplish with a group of people. Sigma Chi was one of the greatest things that happened to me. I really appreciate what it has done for men in my lifetime and I hope I can continue to give something back.”

“When I became a Sigma Chi it was great; I was proud of the association. It was kind of an instant confidence builder for me, that, and what I considered the best fraternity on campus, had actually wanted me. I had always been very shy and without a lot of confidence. It was a really good social experience, and for me, a social maturation and a great benefit.”
